Shaping Future of Architecture through VR

An interesting read in Dezeen - an article about the design group Space Popular and their ideas about how VR will she the future of architecture. For example below is an image from the project The Venn Room.

The Venn Room:

Just like a Venn diagram, this installation from the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2019 suggests what might happen when virtual reality allows two or more physical worlds to combine.
It imagines that, when people in separate places communicate with one another through VR, a new environment will be created that is an average of their two homes.
"We were speculating that, over these years, these intersections become sentimental," said Hellberg. "So like grandpa's dresser and your IKEA table, and the way that they meet every single day, becomes meaningful."
"This will be a real life IKEA problem in 10 years. It will be a big deal," he added.

hello old friend.

I haven't been here for a while but I have just seen this by my old friend Ceal Floyer who used to teach here at Chelsea and I just couldn't resist recording it for future reference as a beautiful example of a gallery based spatial narrative... plus I see Ceal has a show coming up at the Lisson 16th November - January 5th 2019...

Drawing Machines, devices and prosthetics

Peter Maloney, Drawing Machine 2012. Toy Robot and pen prosthetics

In this session we will observe share and discuss drawing machine experiments you have made.

The above movie shows a drawing device I made very quickly, adapted from  a childrens toy. It clearly demonstrates our definition of drawing adopted from Professor Farthing, that it is " a two dimensional record of a multi-dimensional event". What it also does is break down the idea that the sketch is produced directly by the hand holding a utensil as directly manipulated by the brain.

Devices can range from complex weather mapping systems to hacked toys. Devices can be stand alone automated objects they can attach themsleves to architecture or other objects like parasites to record activity or function as part of or body as a prostheses.

Here are some further examples of good work done elsewhere:

Tim Knowles sent this device through the post and this is the drawing he got back. It is just one of the many inspiring works on his site, -Tim Knowles
